"Get busy living, or get busy dying." - Andy Dufresne, The Shawshank Redemption

Last week I heard that two friends had cardiac events.

Concerning.

But what's more concerning is that they are both under 45 years old.

Happy to report they're both doing well and recovering.

Focused on healthy living and being more proactive about their health.

Sometimes it takes a wake-up call to get you on the right track. Or maybe it just takes an easy to read, straightforward newsletter about how to be proactive about your health.

Hi, my name is Kevin Andreosky and I want to help you on your health journey.

Questions you are probably asking:

  • Am I a doctor? Nope.

  • Any medical schooling? Nope.

  • How can you help me? Read to find out.

I'm passionate about health. I follow the leaders in the industry, do the research, and cut through the noise to give you what actually matters.

I've been studying health and wellness for over a decade. Not in a lab, but in real life. Testing what works, tracking what doesn't, and learning from doctors, researchers, and coaches who are at the top of their game.

I've watched people I care about deal with health issues that could have been caught earlier. That stuck with me. This newsletter exists because I believe the right information at the right time can change the trajectory of someone's life.

Every issue, I'll break down one topic that matters. I'll share what the experts are saying, what I've learned firsthand, and what you can actually do about it. No fluff. No scare tactics. Just useful information you can put to work today.

Background

I've spent 15+ years in tech helping organizations spot what's broken and build systems that actually work.

I'm also a 3x Ironman triathlete.

If you're not familiar, that's 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles on a bike, and a full marathon. Back to back. Under 17 hours. I did my first one in my late 30s because a friend dared me to.

I'm not a gym bro. I'm not a CrossFit maniac (no offense, just not my thing).

I'm the guy who'd rather paddle out at sunrise, go for a long walk, or cook a real meal at home.

I believe that “Simple Scales.”

Healthy habits, more often than not.

And yes, I crush ice cream, love pizza, and enjoy a good glass of wine.

We're all human.

This newsletter is for the person who wants to feel better without wading through medical jargon and wellness noise.

Real guidance. Plain language. No bullshit.

If that sounds like your kind of thing, you're in the right place.

Let’s get started.

Welcome to the first issue of South Florida Health.

A weekly 3 to 5 minute read for people who want to feel better without overcomplicating it. Each week you'll get one health tip you can actually use, one local doctor or resource worth knowing about, and one question to sit with.

Topics we are going to cover include:

  • Gut health & nutrition

  • Walking & simple movement

  • Sleep optimization, mental health & stress

  • Diabetes & blood sugar,

  • Protein & functional foods

  • Sun/skin/outdoor health

  • Women's health & longevity,

  • Preventive care & screenings, and wearables & health tech.

And anything else that is top of mind for you.

The Tip: Walk for 10 Minutes After Dinner

A 2024 study in the journal Sports Medicine found that a short walk after eating can lower blood sugar by up to 17% compared to sitting. You don't need a gym. You don't need gear. Just your shoes and 10 minutes.

In South Florida, this is one of the easiest habits to build. The weather is on your side most of the year. Walk your block. Walk the beach. Walk with your dog, your kids, or just your thoughts.

It's one of my favorite habits. Whether I'm with someone or alone, I pick a topic to talk or think about. Last night's topic? Favorite 80s movie. 🎥.

Keep reading to find out the answer 🙂

This week's challenge: After dinner tonight, set a timer for 10 minutes and walk. Just once. See how you feel.

THE SPOTLIGHT

Each week this is where we highlight a doctor, clinic, practice, community group, or any other resource that is helping South Florida live healthier. Know someone who deserves the spotlight?

Reply to this email and tell us about them.

THE QUESTION

What's one small thing you keep meaning to do for your health but haven't started yet?

For me it’s not looking at my phone for the first hour in the morning. We are all human and awareness is the first step. I’ll do better.

RESOURCES I LIKE

One resource I suggest to everyone is SelfDecode.

SelfDecode is like getting a personalized weather forecast for your body. Instead of checking if it'll rain tomorrow, you're checking your DNA to see which health "storms" you're more likely to face, like higher risk for inflammation, poor sleep, or vitamin deficiencies, so you can pack the right umbrella before it hits.

And yes, if you click and buy, that is an affiliate link, which means I will receive a percentage of the sale.

That’s A Wrap

Thanks for spending a few minutes with me today. My goal is to help you cut through the healthcare noise and get you to be more proactive on your health journey.

You are so much more powerful than you think.

And the movie is The Goonies.

Have the best week. And if you found value here, please share it with your community.

❤️❤️❤️
